Button Mash This : The Holidays are here and so are Wii
So this is a new feature that my sister will be doing on photojunkie. It’ll be a weekly post on various news and links in gaming this week. My sister is still recovering from her recent trip to London and she’s barely opened her Wii yet, so I thought I’d kick it off myself with this post.
So this past weekend, I finished the Story Mode in Rayman Raving Rabbids for the Wii. I have told you how much I love this game right? If I haven’t, I’m telling you now. Sure it’s simply a string of mini games, loosely tied together by an almost non-existent storyline, but the insanity of the rabbits and it’s intigration of the Wii’s unique controllers truly make this game fun to play. How it will fair on other consoles is questionable. After playing it on the Wii, I simply can’t imagine playing it any other way.
So you are sitting there thinking, I neither have a Wii or the game. Well Ubisoft, the creators of the Rayman franchise is giving away a 3 Wii prizepacks including various Ubisoft games in their “Show off your Rabbid Scream” contest. How freaking cool is that. AHHHHHHH. Check out the Rayman’s Myspace for deets.
This weekend, I also drained my first set of batteries on one of my Wiimotes. First you get this blinking drained battery icon that appears on the corner of your TV screen, then it dies about 30 minutes later. Needless to say, I need to invest in more rechargeables. The fine folks at Kotaku point out a few quotes from a MTV interview with Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime. Where he basically said that some third party company should come up with a rechargeable remote and he also expresses his disappointment in Elite Beat Agents sales. I’m gonna speak for my sister in this case, as she has been trying to push this game on me for several weeks now. It’s a fun game, personally I just suck at rythmn.
Need Gift Ideas? Why not get this Nintendo Tree Shirt? I’d get it for my Nintendo Fan girl sister, but I’ve pretty much done all my Birthday and Christmas shopping for her. Which really means, that she will have to buy it herself if she wants it. (Link via Wonderland).
Okay okay, So this post has been a little Nintendo heavy, I’ll admit I am biased. I have no news in regards to the Playstation franchise, basically I’m not interested. They actually had a demo console at a Best Buy in the city and I simply walked away even though no one else was playing it. My sister of course tried her hand while I went to look at iPod accessories. Of course, the big news on the Xbox 360 front is the arrival of the Halo 3 website. If you signup, you could be chosen to Beta test it. (Link via Video Game Jocks)
Now to end off the post, here is a little tip for you. On Friday night, we erected the Christmas tree in the living room. Considering that our apartment isn’t huge, it’s basically right beside the TV. Needless to say, if you are playing on your Wii, make sure to turn off the lights on the tree, otherwise you are gonna confuse the hell out of your Wiimote. Trust me, it’s not fun.
Bunnies Can’t Play Soccer
There are a ton of these ads all over You Tube, just do a search for Rayman. They are freaking hilarious. A) the game rocks. B) I want a plushie Rabbit.
God Bless Nintendo
So for my birthday I got a Nintendo DS Lite. I never really understood the pleasure in handheld gaming until now. I’m currently obsessed with Animal Crossing :Wild World.
Anyway, I never ended up getting a Gamecube, but I don’t think I will pass up on the Wii. The next generation console for Nintendo. Check out this Wii trailer. This is hardly new news, but I simply had to share my enthusiasm.
